In Blackjack, how effective is counting against a reshuffling machine?

I recently played blackjack at the Seven Luck Casino in Seoul. I always like to play in a shoe game, but to my misfortune I found that all of the tables with a minimum less than $100 were being dealt from a card reshuffler. I never like to play against these machines, but having no better option I decided to take the worst of it for an hour or two and then leave.

But then, to my surprise, I discovered that the dealer was dealing out as much as a FULL DECK OF CARDS before dumping cards back into the reshuffler. Suddenly it occured to me that, under these circumstances, counting may still be valid. certainly, when a bunch of low cards come streaming out of the shuffler, the remaining "shoe" must be good until those cards get reshuffled in again.

In addition, I noticed that when the dealer puts the cards in to reshuffle, she's already ready to deal out the first card for the next hand. That first card is not getting shuffled, and maybe that's true of a couple behind it. Sitting just to the left of the dealer, I'm in line to get that first card, so the prior count at least affects this one hand somewhat.

So… given all this, can counting still be effective? how effective? I don't know how many decks are in the machine, but it's small, so I don't figure on more than 5 or 6 max. Also, how long does it take the reshuffler to truly randomize the cards? Do the reshuffled cards tend to clump near the back of the shoe, at least for a while? it seemed so, but that was just an untestable impression based on quick observation.

No good machines, I would not use them if i were you.

surprisingly, counting cards against a reshuffling machine is a fraction better than a hand shuffled 6 deck shoe……money is money …25 more hands per person per table are dealt per hour at a 5% casino advantage against 98.9% of typical blackjack players who don't play basic strategy…

How do I count cards to know what card is coming next?

I have been counting cards a while and am very familiar with the Hi-Lo counting method. I was wondering if there was a way to be able to do this and know what card is coming next. In an episode of Fringe where robbers found a way to pass through solid objects, Agent Olivia Dunham was in a bar with the other man, the son of Walter. She took out a deck of cards and without looking at them flipped them one at a time to the table. then the guy said stop and she told him what card was the next one. is this real and how can I learn to do this?

LOL, this is a fictionalized and dramatized program. I am sure what you saw was stagecraft and had nothing to do with card counting.

There is a way to do the same thing in real life, though. There are a couple of "Card Sequence" tricks, where the cards are maintained in what appears to be a random manner, but are actually in an easily memorized sequence.

For example here is a link to one that lets you pick a card by spelling.

And an explanation of "full Deck"stacks.

Have fun!

When card counting was invented by Edward Thorpe in 1961, he originally tried to remember what cards had actually been played. He quickly figured out that it was both impossible and not of much real advantage. The genius of his technique was that the real advantage was knowing if the remained of the deck was rich in Aces and tens. this increased the possibility of a blackjack (for both the casino and the player), but the player is paid a 50% bonus.

One of the illusions of movies (from Rain Man) is that they give the impression that card counters know what card is coming next. In actuality they simply know when to increase their bet.

Card Counting in the Movie "21"?

Someone please help me on this one. Looking through 21 and the article of card counting on Wikipedia, which system of counting was used by Ben in 21? Hi-Lo? I can't tell. You can check "card counting" on Wikipedia, but i can't tell still.

When theirs a black card that means you add that number a red card means you subtract that number for some reason are teacher tought as this in math

I dont know?? I saw the movie yesterday with my girl caite.

"21" used the Hi/Lo system for counting cards.

2-6 = +1
7-9 = 0
10-A = -1

This uses the Law of Large Numbers to determine how many "large" cards there are in the deck. "Large" in Blackjack is any card with a 10 or greater value.

Try it yourself with a single deck of cards. if done correctly the ending count shuld be zero.

Levon is totally wrong…he used HI-Lo…it's where
2,3,4,5,6= +1
7,8,9= 0
10,J,Q,K,A=-1
if the table is hot then it will be about +3 and higher…in real life it is extremely rare to get a + 17 or +16 as they did in the movie…and you count every card and keep the count on every round…and also you will win a lot but NOT EVERY HAND like they portrayed in the movie but you will win most giving you the benefit…hope this helped
